Cam morphology research

PhD student Jinchi Tang presented his research at OARSI 2023 in Denver.

The aim of this study entitled “cam morphology is strongly and consistently associated with the development of radiographic hip osteoarthritis” was to determine the association between cam morphology and the development of radiographic hip osteoarthritis at four time points within 10-year follow-upfrom the CHECK cohort.

He found that cam morphology exposes the hip to a 2 to 13 times increased odds for developing radiographic hip osteoarthritis within 10-year follow-up. In addition, while the strength of association was consistent over 10 years, the association was particularly strong for large cam morphology and end-stage radiographic hip osteoarthritis.
